For many years Everen’s Charitable Contributions Committee has provided individual donations to a diverse spectrum of Bermuda charities as Everen’s corporate headquarters are located in Bermuda. This year the Committee decided to focus its annual financial gifting toward fewer charities and with larger donations in order to make a significant impact where support is seen to be needed.
We encourage our staff to be active in supporting community giving programs which include internal fund raising events, annual “Day of Giving” activities, mentorships and volunteering their time through service to a wide variety of Bermuda charities. The following highlights a few of our recent initiatives.
Requests for financial contributions, sponsorships or corporate memberships should be directed to our Corporate Contributions mailbox: [email protected]
Everen Group sponsors new PALS vehicle
In August 2022, Everen partnered with PALS (formerly known as Patients Assistance League and Service) and sponsored the purchase of one new vehicle. As many people in Bermuda know, PALS is the only home cancer care charity on the island and their vehicles are some of the most important pieces of equipment that the nurses rely upon. PALS provides support to over 200 cancer patients in their homes, all without ever charging a patient or their families for their services. Once again, Everen is delighted to be able to be a community partner with PALS.
KBB Railway Trail Clean-Up
In November 2021, the Everen Group of Companies, joined a collaborative effort with ABIC (Association of Bermuda International Companies), KBB (Keep Bermuda Beautiful) and the Parks Department to keep the Bermuda Railway Trail clean. Coordinated with KBB, we adopted part of a railway trail in one of the eastern parishes of the island (Hamilton Parish). Volunteers from the Everen Group of Companies will monitor the trail once a quarter to clean our designated section. This would entail collecting trash along the trail and any that can be accessed safely along the rocky shoreline. Trash bags and gloves were provided by KBB. The refuse was left at public trash bins at either end of the trail section for pick-up by the Parks Dept.
Below are photos of the first group of 11 enthusiastic volunteers in action during the November clean-up. As you can see, quite a lot of trash was collected, mostly from the shoreline so it was definitely a worthwhile and much needed exercise. The community will also benefit as this will enhance their enjoyment of walking the beautiful seaside trails.
KEMH Meal Train
In October 2021, the Everen Group of Companies participated in the ‘Meal Train’ initiative along with other companies and individuals on the island. ‘Meal Train’ was a scheme set-up by Victoria Markus to provide free meals to all of the front-line workers (doctors and nurses) at our local hospital, King Edward Memorial, who have been working tirelessly in response to COVID 19 hospitalizations. We provided 50 lunches and 50 dinners for two days to various departments in the hospital. Along with their meals, they received a ‘Thank You’ note from the Everen Group of Companies in several languages thanking them for their hard work and dedication in caring for COVID patients. We as patrons sponsored the meals and utilized various restaurants around the island to fill the meal orders. This was doubly beneficial to the island because not only was this helping the hospital, it was also supporting the restaurant and hospitality industry.
Below are a few photographs of some of the grateful Doctors and nurses receiving their lunches and dinners. All in all, the scheme was a great success, the meals were well received and it helped a lot of people in our community!
